Hello Fellow Artists,
This is Tony Tomassi, co-owner of Red Sky Gallery.
Between the two of us, my partner Debbie Tomassi and I have decades of experience in both the fine and commercial art industries - something like 100 years or so, but who's counting? We hope this will lead you to believe that we actually know what we're doing now..
One thing we've learned over the years is that to be a successful artist your work needs to be - good, whatever that means, and it needs to be photographed, shown and seen in its best light.
If you don't think you can afford good photography, consider the high costs of poor photography. No matter how amazing your work is in person, if your online images are low quality, customers tend to assume that the work is also low quality. Great photography, on the other hand, shows how wonderful your work truly is and gives customers a chance to fall in love with it.
In the long run, the quality of your photography has a direct impact on your sales. Because it is so important, I recommend including photography in your overhead costs, and factoring it in when determining the pricing of your artwork.
